The Legacy of Benjamin Tucker
The early American anarchism of such figures as Lysander Spooner, Josiah Warren, and Benjamin Tucker is usually associated with a strong individualist proclivity. Hiskes here offers an overview of Benjamin Tucker, publisher of the journal Liberty, and argues that Tucker’s vehement defense of individual autonomy is dependent upon an understanding of liberty which takes into account both the liberty of others and the relationship between the individual and community that is necessary to make it possible at all.
